The Ego Is Not The Enemy
In any spiritual practice, there is a debate about the ego. Is it good? Is it bad? What should we do with it? But one thing is for sure, the spiritual ego is not a fun one to encounter.
The ego can take shape in any way. In my practice, I am learning to embrace my ego and to work with it, not against it. It's a delicate practice to notice when our egos take charge, and it can be very subtle.
So when we start a spiritual practice learning to become more in tune with everything around us, our egos start to feel threatened.
It is still that part of us separate from everything else and in charge of staying alive. No not the Bee-Gees song, just simply staying alive.
We can think of our egos as our role here.
It is not something to suppress or transcend but something to integrate. Letting the ego embody the soul is a way to let our unique selves shine.
The only way the ego gets blown out of proportion is when there are wounds, insecurities and a lack of healing. And also the rejection of one's soul and interconnectedness to the rest of existence.
